The Great Suspender, and most of it's successors now also contain malware. Learn how to pick a better tab suspender extension for chrome.
Back in February of 2021, the Google chrome team removed The Great Suspender chrome extension from the chrome store. An observant user noticed earlier in the year that the extension had been sold to new owners and that they were installing malicious and nefarious software / scripts in the “free” and open source extension.
Since then, year after year, someone has spun up another version of The Great Suspender and amassed many users — promising a free extension — only to sell the extension or it’s users data.
Now, chrome has once again flagged the new Great Suspender extension as “malware”. You can see it discussed on reddit here.
This is no longer a matter of choice, google has completely removed the extension from the store. You’ll have to find another tab manager, session manager, or tab suspender to suit your needs.
It might be time to make the switch to a more reputable and sustainable tab suspender...

Look for extensions that are sustainable. There is nothing wrong with being open source and free, but be wary of extension that are completely free. Theres no such thing as a free lunch. The extension and it’s developers must be supported somehow — therefore if there is no outwardly obvious method of sustaining and maintaining the extension it is likely that it will be abandoned, sold to nefarious new owners, or worse yet, just sell your user data without telling you.
Look for extension with good track records + a sustainable method to supporting the development and maintenance of the software.
